Book description Considerado como la biblia de los organeros, es, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los tratados musicales más importantes de la historia. Publicado por primera vez entre 1766 y 1778, el Arte del constructor de órganos es un compendio monumental sobre el órgano clásico del siglo XVIII. Su realización fue auspiciada por la Real Academia de las Ciencias de París y, especialmente, por Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau. Gracias a su apoyo, el benedictino Bedos de Celles se retiró a la Abadía de Saint-Denis, donde comenzó a redactar este tratado teórico y práctico sobre la organería, lo que le ocupó los últimos años de su vida.
La obra sigue gozando de plena actualidad y cuenta ya con traducciones al inglés, al alemán o al italiano, pero en español será la primera vez que salga de la imprenta.
En la primera edición, el libro ve la luz por partes. En 1766 aparece la primera parte, en 1770 la segunda y terceras partes; la cuarta -con el prefacio general, la tabla de materias y un importante diccionario de términos técnicos- aparece en 1778. Al final de cada parte figuran las correcciones y adiciones. La obra incluye también un prefacio del autor, la tabla de los capítulos y de las secciones, una tabla alfabética de materias y términos, así como una tabla de las láminas que se incluyen al final de la obra.
Al igual que sucedió en las diferentes reediciones que se hicieron en Francia (Enciclopedia Roret, 1849 y Joseph Guedon, 1903), esta traducción al español incluye la adaptación al sistema métrico decimal de las diferentes tablas donde las medidas iban en pies, pulgadas, etc. Para ayudar a los lectores se añade también una regla con dichas adaptaciones métricas.
